"The Stigma of Incarceration"

Being labeled as a stigmatized person has substantial effects on the way people think and feel about themselves, as well as how they expect to be treated by others. Psychological research shows that such responses to stigma can interfere with functioning, and lead to maladaptive behaviors, poor mental health, and difficulty participating in the community.

Guest Speaker: Jennifer Rice

Jenifer Rice is a former inmate at The Dayton Correctional Institution where she served five years for a violent crime. She was a victim of Domestic violence which led her to a substance use disorder. She wants to share her story to help other women possibly make better choices and to understand that your adverse childhood experiences do impact your adult choices.
